St Hilda’s Diocesan High School, in Brown’s Town, St Ann on Friday, June 15 launched its Legacy Village under the theme, “The Journey continues” in celebration of Jamaica 50.
Principal of the School, Heather Reid Johnson says the purpose of the village is to instill pride and motivate Jamaicans to continue building a great future for the country.
Mrs Johnson says Jamaicans have a “responsibility to ensure that liberty, equality, dignity and the family of the community remain the heart and heart beat of the country.”
The launch which was held on the school grounds was an extravagant affair which concludedwith a grand gala dance by the St Hilda’s dancers.
Persons were then given a tour of the village.
Keynote speaker at the event, Sydney Bartlett, principal director, Ministry of Culture, lauded the school for its efforts in hosting the outstanding celebrations.
These St Hilda’s ladies represent “Out of many one people” as they dressed to represent the different ancestors. They also welcomed those attending the function in the different languages of the ancestors.
